Your Wedding Planning Timeline for Asheville & Western North Carolina

Somewhere around the third spreadsheet, most couples ask me the same question: "Are we behind?" (if you have a real moment or client quote that captures this, drop it in — it's the most "you" line in the post and worth making specific)

Almost never. But wedding planning has a way of making everyone feel like they forgot something urgent. So let's fix that. Here's a real timeline, built around how weddings actually come together in this part of the world, not a generic checklist copied from somewhere with a completely different vendor market.

12+ Months Out: Lock the Big Three

Venue, date, and coordinator. In popular Asheville months (think September through November, when the leaves turn and every calendar fills up), the best venues and photographers can book a year or more in advance. If your heart's set on a fall mountain wedding, this is the stage where waiting costs you options.

9 to 12 Months Out: Build Your Vendor Team

Photographer, caterer, florist, band or DJ. Western North Carolina has an incredible pool of talent, but the popular ones stay booked. This is also the point where having a coordinator pays off, because I already know who's reliable, who's worth the splurge, and who tends to overpromise. 

6 to 9 Months Out: Design the Details

This is the fun part. Linens, florals, signage, the little touches that make your wedding feel like yours instead of a template. It's also when we start talking logistics: where the getting-ready suite is, how the timeline flows if it rains, and how guests will actually get up that mountain road.

3 to 6 Months Out: Handle the Paperwork

Marriage license, final headcounts, seating charts, and the invitations that somehow take longer than expected. Not glamorous, but this is where a coordinator quietly saves you from the stuff that sneaks up on people.

1 to 3 Months Out: Finalize the Timeline

Every vendor gets a run-of-show. Every detail gets confirmed. This is when the wedding stops being a plan and starts being a real, scheduled day, and it's usually when couples feel the most relief, because someone else (hi) is now holding all the logistics in their head instead of them.

Wedding Week: Just Show Up

This is the whole point of hiring a coordinator. You should be hugging family and eating good food, not answering texts from your caterer about parking.
